Thread: Defender G/Box

I know it can be done. MY old RRC 84 had an R380 put in it. I believe you need to get a manual V8 bellhousing from a manual RR or a Disco.
The bell housing will be different. Are you talking a gearbox from a diesel Defender or a V8 County?
It can be done but you will need a bell housing that will fit the V8 or possiblly an adaptor kit. Not sure how readily available these adapter kits are.
Your gearing will also be reduced if using the Defender transfer case as well. Probablly will also be an issue with diff ratios if using the defender transfer box.
There are some guys on this forum that specialise in this, so given time I am sure they will post.

Misread part of the question. The transfer case should work I believe. I do not think the one on my RRC was replaced when the R380 was put in.
There is a fair bit of work involved however with the conversion. Someone will confirm or expode this. If there is any difference a trans case from a manual Disco should not be that hard to get.

I want to put a 300tdi in my RR V8 with an auto in it now
What I want to know is???
Will the 300tdi boz fit the existing transfer case??
Will a 300tdi mate to a RR 4speed box??
Can I put a overdrive on behind the tdi box and existing RR transfer case??
Just exploring my options
