    Question Oil Pressure?

After my oil light flicking on and off randomly i put a oil pressure gauge in today. All driving it seems to stay at 35-38psi then when pulled up at light idling goes to 25psi is this to low? whats the normal pressure?

that sounds just a touch low...

I like to see 40-50Psi for running pressure and about 30 for idle...

is youre gauge electrical or on a pilot tube?

Electrical ones can be out depending on what wire you run, where you pick up the feeds and how well its making to earth.

The pilot ones read lower the longer and more convoluted the route the pilot pipe runs.

if your oils old or your running synthetic Id say your doing Ok. but at this point its not something to panic about...

My electric gauge, 95 300tdi, new bearings, reasonable bores, refreshed head new gasket, new oil pressure valve - using Penrite 15W40 runs at just under 60psi until up to temperature back to 50psi. Down to 35 at idle? Thats in Cairns so ambient temp of say 20 degrees at start up?

I noticed my pressures were dropping (a little lower than yours though) just before doing work on the engine? Lots of variables though.

I vaguely recall the factory states 40-60 psi at operating temperature and engine speed.

I forgot to mention that you should lift a rocker cover off and make sure that the oil isnt frothing from a cavitating pump pickup (sometimes happens if the pickup line cracks)
