Possibly aerated fuel, it means that there is a possible combustion leak into the fuel rail from a faulty injector sealing washer. Does it get worse when you put the vehicle under load for a while, like up a steep long hill?
Also, the fuel filter, as mentioned, may have been fitted without the small centre sealing ring, this may cause a noise from the pump and difficult starting also.
