300Tdi Disco - Torque Convertor Not Engaging

    Hi all.
    I have a 96 ES mod Tdi300 auto.
Once i am exceeding 80klms/hr the Torque Converter usually locks in and the revs drop an extra +-150RPM.
lately it has not been locking in and i have been shifting back to third gear and backing of the acceleration and hoping that it locks when i put it back into 4th.

Was wondering what i could do to fix this problem!!!

    Cheers Christian

*should have kept the 94 disco 5sp manual that could average 7.8lt/100
    Is it expensive/worth it to swap/install a 5sp man????

Ive got the same problem but only on occasions, brought mine at 86000kms its now done 117000kms and ir still does it once in a while. Changed oil made no difference. As it rarely happens I havent worried to much about it. I have a transmission manual which lists as expected a list of possible faults. Somewhere inside there will be a sticky valve or such like like.
This is not a lot of help to you I realise but to fix it some of the transmission is going to have to come apart. (maybe the governor and/or valve body)
    Good luck RAY

you can get a flushing agent to put in before you do a change...

not sure how well its going to work but if it does work it saves you the cost of a rework.

Draining and checking your oil will reveal if you have any gravely corky bits floating in it and if you do its not locking because the TC lockup plate is shot.

As Dave said, TC lockup clutch clearances could be way too high, but the later 4HP22's had a 'Hysteresis' valve ( A fancy kind of thermostat) in the valve body. This has the primary function of only allowing lockup once the trans has reached a certain temp. This valve is quite prone to sticking, especially with dirty/ infrequently changed fluids.
