    Unhappy stuck bolts need help

    Morning all,

    In the process of swapping over my waterpump on a 95 300tdi fender.

    2 bolts are well and truly stuck though... and the mate doing it for me has broken a socket already.

    Any suggestions on loosening them up?

    Hi Outlaw, a few people a while back were praising the effect of CRC's new "Freeze Spray". Might be worth a go????

    I have used it on rusted seat bolts and other things. Seems to work well!

    Hey Josh,

    I would say heat or shock, and a better quality toolkit

    The bolts may well shear if you're not careful however.

    recently read in a bike tech manual one of the best ways of freeing up stuck or frozen threads is to create a bladder around the bolt and fill it with coca-cola and leave overnight, havent tried it yet but when you see what it does to a coin it makes sense.

    I'm guessing that the offending bolts are the long set that go all the way to the engine block. (You can read through this if you want - Tips for replacing the coolant pump p-gasket - Tdi )

    You may have to resort to grinding the heads of the bolts off - the rust hump that forms on the bolt really jams it in the hole. Try not to hit the aluminum extension as it will deform. After you get the aluminum bits off, you can concentrate on the remaining bits of bolt with heat, or carefully extract like a broken exhaust stud.
