    3 or 4 bolt

    I am building up a R/Rover,
    What is the best steering box to use??
    The orig. RR or the later disco/def one??

    A vote for a Disco .... and grab the lower control arm for the box as well

    Range Rovers and probably Discos from mid 92 on have tapered rollers in the output shaft instead of a bush. Both before and after are known as 4 bolt AFAIK.
    Mine has now done 162K km and does not leak at all.
    So that is my recommendation.

    The 3 bolt boxes are easy to rebuild if the shafts arent worn, just press in some new bushes that have been reamed to suit and some new seals and off you go, but as said if you have or can get hold of a later 4 bolt i'd use that.
