" this is from the company that make the LR PS boxes."

the question i asked.
hi guys,
land rover has 3 types of PS box in the various models up to defender TD5.
there is the 3 bolt, 4 bolt and a 6 bolt?? i think??
can you tell my the differance between the 4 bolt an the 6 bolt?
also is there a quicker lock to lock PS box available.

Hello Philip,
it`s a bit long winded but the answer to your question ref 3/4/6 bolt fixings
is as follows.
1. 3 bolt (stud) fixing is ADWEST part from 1970 to 1984
it comprised imperial (UNC) mounting fixings with imperial porting with olives (INLET/RETURN)
2. 4 bolt fixing was introduced in 1984 and is current production.
it comprises metric mounting fixings with metric porting no olives (INLET/RETURN)
3. at the time of introduction of 4 bolt fixing (1984) a replacement for 3 bolt(stud)
specifically for service and spares was intoduced with imperial fixings/portings
ie a direct replacement for 3bolt(stud) and is still available
4. 6 bolt fixing is not ADWEST manufacture but GEMMER (france)
ADWEST replaced GEMMER as original equipment supplier in 1970.
i believe ADWEST/GEMMER are interchangeable

With ref to ratio available ie varying turns lock to lock
the current standard production to LAND ROVER is 3.8 turns
we do however supply an alternative ratio to the OFF ROADERS -who specialize in racing
this is 3.1 turns but is not normally used for ON-ROAD vehicles
Regards
Robert''
