How old is your maxi? V1 with 28 spline or V2 with 24, early stuff fits through the stub, somewhere within the late stuff, the stub must be removed to insert the axle and the stub fits over the outer spline only

Not that I know much, as shown above

This is what I remember from having mince out a little while ago.

On the rear you have 2 half shafts only. These run from the diff to the cap on the hub. No other stub axles that I can remember, unless you have non standard rangie gear.
It was the brass bush that stops you being able to completely pull out the axles without diss-assembling the hub.

I hope I have that correct. I am sure someone will let me know if I don't!
Spindles, if that suits your terminology better

I have seen a stock (defender front) stub/spindle that could just fit a 30spl (1.31") longfield shaft through without boring. So there must be a pretty large variation in Rover tolerances.

To me that makes the comments about stub/spindle strength with 24spl conversions moot.

It's V2 24 spline, could have sworn the axle fitted through the stub, but I must be confusing it with something else.....ah well you get that.
    Thanks for the response
