    Engine overtemp alarm

    I was going to buy two of Davo's low coolant alarms for both my LR's,but today the thermostat on the Disco failed,luckily I was driving it.I noticed straight away something was wrong and stopped it before it boiled but I know for sure my Partner would has missed it and I would be chasing a new engine.So in a nut shell I'm not going to buy the low coolant alarm as it would not have saved the engine,what I need is an alarm that will tell me the engine is overtemp when either the thermostat or coolant loss has happened.Is there a system that will measure the block temp,not the sender as it is on the wrong side,the lower rad hose would be the place for it or on the block proper.Has anyone got a set-up like this?.     Watchdog TM2 measures the block temp. But I think ideally you'd need one of those and the low coolant alarm.

    It's a 96 D1 3.9.It didn't loose a drop of coolant so a low alarm would be useless. Pat

    The watchdog is what you want. It's easy to install and it provides excellent piece of mind.

    Blow a hose on the Flacon years a go.
    Temp never went up as there was no water on the sender for it to work.

    I do know what you mean, have to teach the hand brake to keep a better eye on the gauges.

    I know mine don't.

    The problem over here is everywere is 100k zones and long distances with no phone coverage.It would be dead if it failed on any other day. Pat

    It would blow a hose or the radiator cap before it damaged the engine, and a low water alarm would pick that up.

    The other option is to set up a thermocouple + simple resistor/transistor setup to set off a buzzer at high temp. You could probably use the existing thermocouple, but would need to tune the resistor to get the right temp.

    Not sure about that.By the time it boils and blows a hose the engine temp is way above safe levels. Pat
