    Question Oil in air intake...

I just took the MAF sensor unit out on my TD5 disco to clean it and noticed a lot of black oil caught in the corrugations of the rubber intake pipe to the turbo, below where the PCV valve connects. Is this just blow-by from the crankcase? How bad should this get before one begins to worry? Engine has a new head. Starts on the button, nothing negative noted. I've cleaned out the PCV valve too.

Should pipe from maf to turbo be cleaned

Just doing a service on a 2004 Discovery Td5. Replaced air filter and Cleaned MAF with MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR CLEANER, and also noticed oil residue in pipe. Should this be cleaned with the cleaner while MAF is off?

In a diesel engine it’s a Depression Control Valve which is substantially different to a PCV. Anyway, installing an oil separator, aka...an oil catch can, will help greatly to keep your pipes and intercooler free of oil. The Provent 200 is by far the most popular choice - I have a Provent / Flashlube 100 which is more than adequate for a stock Td5.
