Fairs fair, Dave says he had it seriviced reguarly since NEW and I think it is easy enough to say it is an obvious problem, but if it is so obvious the freaken dealer should have fixed it. Isn't that why they record service history.

I have been meaning to pull my sump apart to locktite the bolt since buying my D2 last March; have been putting it off since.. however this thread has made me lose sleep for the past week !!
Finally took the time to pull it apart last week; the bolt came out easily with only minimal resistance, no sign of locktite on the bolt thread. (TD5 with 110,000Klm)
one less time-bomb..
Yup, like about 50% of the ones I get to do:o
The others are a mixture of already loctited ones and the odd loose one with loctite. Only found 2 'loose' (As in not very tight) with no loctite so far.
An hours extra work and a new sump gasket will give peace of mind.

I wonder if the cause of all these oilpump bolt failures isnt a result of loctite not been applied,but one of the loctite actualy failing due to exposure to synthetic oils???
Ive seen the synthetic oil eat expensive sillycum that was labled as ok to use with oil in engines!!!!
Perhaps a better bolt with better binding purposes,ie a lock washer or opposite thread etc should have been used in the engine design rather than relying on glue to keep the whole show together????

True, I'm not sure why they the cant make that bolt stay in place when they can do it for every other bolt on the engine.
