    Disco 2 TD5 Alternator

Recently I had a bit of a hicup with the main battery, when checking the volts meter in the car (EMS1) I've noticed the volts are only 13.50 while driving, upon start up it is around the 14.20 mark, then gradually dropping over the coarse of around 1/2 an hour to 13.50, then staying around these volts, can this be a sign that the alternator may need attention very soon

    Cheers Baz.

Mine does that too.. One really good thing about the TD5 alternators is that you can swap teh brushes in them. They unbolt out of the back.

very simple and very good design

thats what the regulator in the alternator dose baz! try it again and switch on a load ie, high beam and spots, the voltage should dip then come back around 13.7v. if your alternator was to stay at 14+volts it would boil and destroy batterys left right and center.

thats the funny thing about all these diganostics read outs... you need to understand the outputs to determin whats crook and whats not

Except for the bit of the design where the vacuum pump on the front does an oil seal and blows oil into the alternator.

    Except for that bit.
