Mine always does that. Its normal.
Recently I had a bit of a hicup with the main battery, when checking the volts meter in the car (EMS1) I've noticed the volts are only 13.50 while driving, upon start up it is around the 14.20 mark, then gradually dropping over the coarse of around 1/2 an hour to 13.50, then staying around these volts, can this be a sign that the alternator may need attention very soon
Baz.

Mine does that too.. One really good thing about the TD5 alternators is that you can swap teh brushes in them. They unbolt out of the back.
very simple and very good design
thats what the regulator in the alternator dose baz! try it again and switch on a load ie, high beam and spots, the voltage should dip then come back around 13.7v. if your alternator was to stay at 14+volts it would boil and destroy batterys left right and center.
thats the funny thing about all these diganostics read outs... you need to understand the outputs to determin whats crook and whats not

I'm currently collecting statistics for others to see.
This morning...Car just started......14.5 - 14.6 volts @ 19 deg. ambient temp.
Travel time ...35 minutes, 3 laned hwy for 23 kilometres.
Destination.....13.9 - 14.0 @ 23 deg ambient temp.
Here are the results of tonight efforts.
Car just started....14.0 - 14.1 volts @ 42 deg. ambient temp.
Travel time...35 minutes, bit of a mixture of two lanes, three lane roads.
Halfway through checked voltage at 2000 rpm.......13.5 - 13.6 @ 43 deg. ambient.
Destination...idle.......13.3 - 13.4 volts @ 44 deg. ambient.

Thanks everyone, I'm eliminating things one item at a time, next is the battery.
