I ordered a set of Lemforders under the Direction of the AULRO Gurus a few weeks ago and surprisingly Warren from MR Automotive told me that the cheaper brands ususally have a grease Nipple on them

    Hi Matthew
Tie rod ends for your vehicle are $27.50 for after market or $49.50 for genuine quality items. Postage to Hervey Bay would be $8.00
    Thanks

I'M Dodgy. I split the boot at the rear and pump new grease in every few months. The steering box one is the only one I don't do this to.

While following this thread I thought I'd better check mine out. Low and behold the boots are cracked, so time to change them.

The ones in there are the originals at 165 000 km, so I figure if I get original replacements they should last for another 10 yrs.

mine have been split for about 3 years I just keep pumping in grease.
they seem OK but have spare on the shelf just waiting.

I'm right in thinking they only need changing when there is any play?

Two different types of joints John. The encapsulated types don't have a grease nipple, and are generally a sealed, lubricated ball in a nylon or composite joint. The grease nipple types commonly have a spring loaded ball, and should be greased regularly. As long as this is done with care, they will last ok. I would be sceptical about adding grease nipples where there are none or blocking them off where provided.
