i really like the thermoguard unit myself, very rapid response to what is going on at the coal face....
Anyone got a preference between the two? VDO seems dearer but a round gauge is easier to fit and electronic easier to trace the wires. But about twice the price

The gauge isn't going to matter much. It's the probe that determines how fast it's going to respond.
I've got a 3mm and 6mm probe, the 6mm moves at a glacial pace.
have had both
imho the thermoguard seems to be more accurate / stable when there is major fluctuations going on.
that said the cheaper one does do the job, just seems to flutter at times.. but that could be my setup.

i prefer the VDO unit, i really hate the look of the thermoguard digital type gauge, and the numbers flashing up and down in red would drive me insane
cheers phil

I've opted to go with the Thermometer (you have) seems to do everything I need and will match the engine watchdog which I'll mount in close proximity.
Thanks everyone for your input.
