heres a couple of pics of the head and block when i pulled it down

that the gist of it...
the compressed air goes in through the plug hole and you just listen for it escaping where it shouldn't.
A film of soapy water over the exhaust will help you find an exhaust leak
remove the air inlet ducting to as close to the intake manifold as you can
dont forget to check both the dipstick and the rocker cover for escaping air
putting a meniscus on the coolant fill helps there too.

judging by the photos, and ALL jokes aside, a water injection unit of some sort might be just the thing for keeping the engine squeaky clean... thoughts?![]()
so true, its a bit hard to see in the pics but it looked like it had just been honed.this one really has me stuffed,i cant think of any real explanation with out pulling it all to bits.
Sorry to hear the bad news.
Does sound like a slipped, or even a split liner.![]()
Havent had that discussion since the last time I got caught spraying water into a diesel to decoke it.....
ITs got merits but what if something goes wrong?

You could have a slipped liner and it just happened to lift back up to the top of the bore when you turned off the engine. Now that it's running again and the engine heat gets it moving again?
What Head Gasket did you use on re install, maybe gasket damaged near a water jacket, did the old gasket have signs of where water had entered?
thanks for all your advice guys,i bought a genuine vrs kit,so all the gaskets are new,the old gasket looked a little cracked around the fire rings on the rear cylinders, both sides,i couldnt tell but the bloke who did the heads for me,picked some pin holes in the gasket around the bad cylinder,im going to take it down to him on monday morning and he,s going to have a good look himself,so mabe i mite have a solution, but im not getting my hopes up,i was spose to be leaving on monday for a 1 month trip,so its not looking real good, ill keep searching for info on how the water flows through the intake manifold, thanks for the great advice!!
