    300tdi Oil Temperature control valve

I posted on another thread in general awhile ago about the O'ring part required for the temperature control valve part number ERC5913.

Well they sent me the O'ring with other parts but is this the correct part.

The reason I ask is if you look at the pics below the on the left is the original part and the one on the right is the new part. The new one looks nothing like the old.My question is has the old part which my have been a O'ring deformed into the shape it is now cause of heat and the shape of housing that the valve bolt's into (you will see what I mean from pic two) the outer eadge of the housing is at a angle.

Sorry about pics and the wording of this thread but this was the best way I could explain it.

the old oring has deformed to suit the shape of the housing, thats how they work...

    I bet

if you put the old oring back in it will leak, if you use the new on it wont.

Thats a text book picture to show why you dont reuse orings.

I thought the same thing when I was replacing this housing on BrendanB's Defender last week.

Was almost about to use the old o'ring/seal but thought that the new o'ring must suit it if it was supplied.

It did not leak and hasn't yet from this o'ring.
