Had some small success / progress ....
We found some memcal chips to install .... on the Commodore VN 5ltr V8 auto

    Question .....
How do you "set the timing to 10deg in diagnostic mode ??" (field service mode)

Bridge the appropriate wires to get it into diagnostic mode then use a timing light and turn the distributor as per normal.

I don't have my wiring diagram books with me (at work) but if you still need help when I go home (might be in a week, might be in a month) let me know.

    Thought so ...

... It's the ... "How do you bridge bit" ... I need to know

As you can tell, I don't know nothing about the V8 Commo EFI setups

Just google VN V8 wiring diagrams. Should be able to find the ECU pin outs pretty easily.

It is just a case of the diagnostic wire going to earth.

Did the google thing .... came up with this quote

    1) turn the crank until the motor is at TDC, and the rotor button is pointing to Cyl1
    10) short the diagnostic plug under the dashboard on the passenger side
    11) plug in your timing light to Cyl1
    12) mark the crank knotch with white chalk
    13) start the car up, and observe the timing. Adjust as needed.
    14) tighten dizzy clamp

This is a JPG I found on the plug

So you just put a paper clip between the Diagnostic test terminal & the earth??
