    S1 Disco Interior Light Problem

I am having a spot of bother with the rear interior light-the one over the back passengers seat- in my Disco.
I thought it had blown a globe and I replaced the globe to find it still won't work.
The door switches work as the front light comes on, I'm thinking it's an Earth problem. The thing is I cant find where they Earth. Can somebody give me some pointers please?

I think the light socket receives power via 1 wire and then it earths out via the mounting screws of the light body onto the roof strut

Use a multi meter to see if the light is receiving 12 volts

I had a similar problem. check the earth for the switch on the hinge side of the door. Be careful not to damage the wire on the back of the switch - the insulation seems to harden and become quite brittle.

sorry to hi-jack your thread but i think im having a similar problem.

when the passenger door is open the light won't come on.. but it works for the driver and back (I have a 2 door) also the light goes off when you flick the switch to on.

Just remove the door pillar switch & give the contacts a bit of a clean. Make sure the screw is nice & tight in the hole too as that's what it earths through. Don't overtighten the screw itself though as it can twist the copper ring around on the switch.

The wire for the rear lights are attached to a roof beam just forward of the hole,( looking towards the front of the car) they then travel to the passenger side of the roof. If you remove the head lining you will find just about all the wirings run in a channel on the passenger roof line.

    Thanks guy's all fixed here

The interior light didnt have its earth wire attached which is why it wouldn't turn on when flicked to on. And I managed to find the wire that broke off in the door and solder it back on.
