I decided to make a new point to replace the bent one.
Some old 10mm plate from the scrap bin at work, a few welding rods and a couple of holes later its finished.
I made it a bit thicker and shorter than the original:

recovery points look great mate!!! are you making two for both side of the rail???? Hey at least your points stayed on your car and didnt come flying off like mine, i could not believe that and i made sure they where tight before i left.

Thanks Mate. Its a bit of an overkill (same shape but about 15mm thick would have been heaps), but I didn't have any plate that size and the 10mm came at the right price!
If I had to get paid for my time I'd be having to sell them for about $200 each
Didn't have a big drill to make the shackle pin hole - too big to swing in the lathe, and don't have any oxy-acetylene bottles any more.
Ended up having to stitch drill it out then clean up the hole with a die grinder.
Geez I hate those those almost invisible steel slivers that end up bristling out of your hands..
There isn't a second one happening until I can find a better way of making the hole!!

The plate will not bend again, but your shackles certainly will after a while, Regards Frank.
Here is a local version I just altered the hole pitch.
These plates are made of structural plate 12mm thick. 300Mpa yield where mild steel is about 200Mpa yield.
Bolts are M10 Gr 12.9 Cap screws. STD bumper bolts.

Do you realise that all the recovery force is on the bottom bolt only? Not much force needed to shear such a small diameter bolt. The top bolt is only a pivot. The 2 bolts need to be in the line of pull (or pretty close to it) to share the load.
Edit: Just saw your thread on bolt size, so your were already aware of the problem.

To me the bracket looks to be the tiedown point that come with the vehicle and were never designed to be a winching/recovery point. "Wrong" now I see the other posts coming up.
I know about the bottom bolt taking the shear.
What bothers me is that the lug at the start of this thread is almost the same. A little bit better but the bottom bolt still takes most of the shear and there are lots fo these type of lugs around.
Makes me a bit worried!!!
Will rethink the plate lay out.
