    Common problems is the Plugs.
Landrover EFI V8's seem to chew out and foul plugs really easy..

So put a new set of spark plugs in it...

    try that 1st...

Definately the first port of call with these engines if no go and you have spark at the coil and fuel. DO NOT fit Champion plugs, NGK BPR5ES or Bosch equivalent are fine.

If the plugs are fouled it wouldn't start on that spray can either.

    We have ignition ...

Now if hindsight were foresight I would have -

    - checked fuel to the rail, via the little bike pump valve thingy; yep fuel's there,
    - run the multimeter over the coil and the ignition module; nup ignition module's stuffed,
    - replaced ignition module, and,
    - started engine.

But hindsight's not foresight so I have a new fuel filter, new coil, new main relay, new plugs and a new (working) ignition module.

For reference, the ignition module is a Tridon TIM044, for mounting beside the coil at the nearside front of the engine bay, not on the distributor. (May 1995 build).

Thanks all for all your help,

    Grant

    G'day Aussie,

I got it 'Trade', apparently, 'cos the guy was Welsh (I went to Uni and was married in Wales), and his name is Grant.

New: $107 inc GST, with a "For Life" guarantee if installed by a Qualified fitter, which I'm not ...

    Cheers,

    Grant

    But Wait - There's More

... so everything is tickerty-boo ... until it starts dying again, a slow hunting, coughing death.

Check everything up to the distributor cap, a strong spark, but not a strong spark at the plug(s). Replaced the distributor cap, which was a little worse for wear - I don't need to replace the rotor, do I, as I did that at Christmas. Still cough, run for a few minutes, and die.

Yep, I replaced the rotor at Christmas with a non Lucas rotor. Pop the old Lucas rotor back in, and, woohoo

The moral of the story is that AULRO search is your friend; it's all over this site to use Lucas rotors, I wondered why, now I'm a believer.

    Cheers,

    Grant

I swear this is the only, and I mean THE ONLY time putting in a Lucas item actually makes it go better......

Mind you, I have an Intermotor cap & rotor and never had any dramas with it. Only bought it as my last one had cracked and the only place open that had anything only had Intermotor.
But now I said it....... Murphys etc etc...
