Thread: Buying 1st Disco, what to look for??!?!

Hello everyone,

I am setting out on the adventure that is owning a Land Rover! I'm planning to head to Brisbane coming weekend to find a used Discovery in good condition.

I was hoping I could get some tips on what to look out for when inspecting and deciding which one to buy. Rust in certain places? Engine noises? Suspension stuff? ANYTHING!!

Also, (budget permitting) would it be better to go for a D2 rather than a D1?

1st, I would look for the dozens of threads in this forum that will answer all your questions.

Next, I would probably look for a Disco to buy. Seems like a logical step to me.

D1 or D2 really comes down to your budget.

Good luck with your hunt... after 2 months of looking ,All I can say glad it's over, what a head ache. A lot of overpriced no so good discos on offer.

Looking around on the web, I saw that most Discos for sale have done at least 100K km (and plenty with 200K and even 300K!!). Is that a problem for these cars? Do things like the transmission, suspension, brakes need to be replaced?

Also, could you guys/gals give me some tips what to look out for when inspecting a potential buy? Rust in certain places? Things to look for when taking it for a test drive, etc.
