front diff pinion bearings, to replace or not to replace.

The front truetrac is on its way from USA (AU$750 to my door with both carrier bearings attached).

I'm trying to sort out any possible warn/leaking parts at the same time I get the truetrac fitted.

So, how can I tell if I should replace my diff pinion bearings whilst its all apart?

The disco has done 170k, should I replace the bearings as a matter of course or an I wasting my money as will they go on for ever?

I can't answer your question specifically but can say when I put my truetrac in I didn't touch the pinion bearings. It had about 215000kms on it at the time and the bearings hadn't been touched since new.

    if they're noisy, replace them

if not, dont touch them, provided the bearings arent damaged, the lubricant isnt contaminated and there are no shock loads, a bearing will happily run forever
