    Clutch issues

Hi all I have clutch problems on the way home from work got stuck in traffic thats when i noticed the problem when I engaged 1st gear it just would not select after 2 attempts then 1st gear engaged, same when 2nd gear was selected. So thought I better check clutch slowly lifting left peddel while in gear it did not take much befor I was rolling forward. Well hear is the nasty bit got home check clutch fluid bit low off high mark ok jack disco up onto car stands grab tools slide under car and prepare to bleed clutch, exhust pipe too hot (wait!!!! wait!!!) after a while exhust cool to touch back into it start to bleed clutch 2nd person pumping clutch down (open bleed nipple), clutch up??? but nothing will not return so hook foot under peddle and pull up keep going bleed bleed bleed.
I am hoping there will be someone in AULRO land who can help.
I am still unable to get the clutch to return to normal at the moment it is about a quarter of the way from he floor before I feel pressure and the peddle will not return without assistance.
could it be the master slave cylinder any ideas
    98 disco V8 5spd 192,000 on the clock
any help would be greatfully accepted
    thanking all cheers Woz

Unfortunately the symptoms strongly indicate a failed clutch release fork, which is a gearbox out job. You shouold be able to confirm this by removing the slave cylinder and finding that the push rod is not coming back.

Hopefully it is your Master Cylinder and not the fork.

Last Friday on the way home I had exactly your problem. Also the same with the clutch pedal...nothing until nearly at the floor. In my case it was the master cyl. I picked up a stainless steel resleeved unit as a replacement.

Bloody clutch failed again on the Disco td5. Last October 08, new clutch, flywheel, Master cylinder. New slave cylinder in February. And now, just when the Zook was off the road as well, its needed a new master cylinder again. The Wife had to hire a car for four days just to add to the cost.
    Not happy Jan.

it can also be the flex line collapsing. when they let go they can make a one way valve

which flex line are you talking about ? Without looking, I can only think of the one between the reservoir and master cylinder.

Exactly the same symptoms as I had in my 93 Discovery. Turned out to be a broken clutch release fork. Apparently a common problem (at least on my vintage disco).
