methinks you discovered your noise ages ago......when you sat in the back and it stopped......

have a look at where you were sitting......and what you were leaning against or holding onto while you were in the back......

if that was the only time the noise stopped......then thats where you should be looking.........

do you have any drawers or anything fitted in there......bouncing maybe.....?

I am not much of an expert here as I only bought my D1 a little over a week ago. When I test drove it, I heard a similar sound to the one you describe.

We crawled all over the vehicle and decided nothing major was wrong and bought it anyway. On the very first drive, I first heard it and said to my wife, I must have not shut the rear door properly and promptly stopped and checked it , closed though. Anyway, after getting it home went over everything and could find nothing underneath or inside that was loose or could be moved to cause it.

I went back to my original thought and looked harder, found less than .5mm movement between the wedge and it's receptor that the door closes into. When quite a bit of upward force was applied to the number plate light (careful not to break it off) I could move the door a bit and make the noise I heard.

I tried to adjust the thing but there isn't any real movement here, so I packed the metal component with a piece of protecting tape about .5mm thick, closed the door, and the noise hasn't been back for the last 300km. Just hoping that I have not compromised the seal, but so far seems ok, I have washed it once and no water got in.

Seems simple, but worth a try, I am not sure what I will do long term, but for the moment, problem is solved and I am very happy for a cheap fix. I hope this helps, and that your problem is as simple.

I too had this clunk from the rear that I could not locate.
I found that one bumper bolt was loose and after tightening the clunk was still there.
Yesterday I did 2 things , I changed my oil filter to a genuine one and replaced the rear donut, the ( which was showing a few spilts).
Any way the clunk seems to have disappeared!!! So it must have been the genuine oil filter that fixed it

no it would of been your rubber doughnut.....they fail a lot and the splits would of been allowing movement.

I changed mine to uj's as they are not renowned for surviving long periods when you give them a bashing off road.

Dullbird ,I wasn't serious about the Oil filer fixing the problem it was tongue in cheek, I know it would have been the donut

well I did wonder but you used the wrong emoticons to lead us to what you were thinking so what you wrote looks serious

Clonk Found

Fitted Tubeless Wolf wheels the other day. Notice "Clonking" was worse with heavier rim on rear door. Have examined and searched and found that door has sagged (less than half a gnat's hair, but enough) for the door to "jump" up and "clonk" on specific bumps. Other giveaway is occasional water ingress at top of door as the seal on;y "breaks" when door shifts

Found solution on interweb:

Loosen hinge bolts (leaving one on each hinge tight)
Open door and jack up (using hilift and piece of wood)
Loosen then tighten last hinge bolts (door will shift fractionally)
Tighten all remaining hinge bolts
Dovetail and guide may need a little fettling too.

I'll be undertaking this job over the weekend.

My dovetail has a good 5mm worn away at its base 9out of sight unless you go looking for it) so I'll be replacing this as well.

I reckon its your A frame balljoint . Most people dont know how to check them properly ! ypu need a 24 inch tyre lever at least to get enough force to lift it .
When did you last Change it ?
