Had a look at this not long ago.
Most failures (not many) appear to come from the "loose bolt syndrome".

Rudolf...your D2 is in the right time frame (build date wise) for it to throw the oil pump bolt....get it checked and loctited if necessary for peace of mind. A new TD5 motor will cost you .... well let's just say there isn't a lot of change after $20K..... An inspection of your oil pump bolt...maybe a few hunjee if you can't do it yourself...
