    Replacement for Magnetti Marrelli Alternator??

I noticed this arvo that the alternator was seized up, spins freely with belt and tensioner on, but with the belt off it is very hard to turn and notchy. Thinking a bearing was buggered I pulled the alternator off and noticed that now it was siezed solid, then I noticed a 3" crack right through both halves or the outer body. Stick it in the vise and tighten and it spins freely.
SO I am after an Alternator, what other Alt. fits the 300TDi, Is there a cheaper alternative that will bolt up and preferrably with a higher Amp output and where can I get one, Thanks, Regards Frank.

Sorry can't help with cheaper alternative.

Is the 300Tdi in a disco or defender?

The disco alternator produces more current than the one used in defender.

there is an alternative to magnetti marelli , Rick130 posted up some pics of adaptors to fit a Bosch Alternator inplace of the MM ( supposedly higher amperage ) however looking at the adaptors it was a lot of bugerising around to get the alternator inplace of the MM one and it wasn't going to be cheaper.source a good 2nd hand one from TRS.

Barney, Bush65, I'm trying to save some money because I'm a tight arse, I was wondering if anyone had used a Ford or Holden Alt. and maybe modified the brackets, anything to save a Quid.
Yes it is in a Disco, the more I look the more expensive it gets, started out with a blocked radiator and overheating, so far, new rad. $400, new timing belt kit $290, couple of new Rad. hoses$??, now the bloody alternator, only had this diesel a couple of months and it's costing an arm and a leg, The good old 93 V8 Disco has cost me a set of plugs and leads (x2) and a vacuum diaphragm in over three years. What I'm saving in fuel costs with the diesel is going on parts, thank christ I can do the work myself, with some good advice from this Forum, Regards Frank.
