There's no need for a blow-off valve on most diesels although later D2s with the inline throttle valve operational would do well to have one.
Would they use a blow off valve ?

I just bought a '96 130 CC 300tdi with a Garrett GT2556V (variable vane) turbo fitted, along with up graded 'Alisport' intercooler and radiator. I've only had it on the road for a few weeks, but I can tell you, it absolutely craps on my Td5 Xtreme when it comes to lag and straight out performance. Pretty impressed so far.
Cheers, Murray

The VNT on the 300 Tdi gives 22psi almost instantly if you floor it. It will hold 20psi at higher revs and will hold 18psi at any speed. It doesn't use a waste gate or blow off valve.
It's a pitty VNT's are so expensive, I would definately be fitting them to my other diesels.
