MD lockers have a detent, so will stay locked unless supplied with enough vacuum / pressure to unlock. Are all your lines connected and working???

If there is a problem with your vacuum lines, you can disconnect the lines on the actuator and use 15 psi compressed air to unlock it. (>20psi and you may damage the fork).

If your vacuum system is working fine, then you may have a twisted axle, causing extra resistance.

Also - make sure it actually is locked. The light works by getting -ve from the piston contacting a small bolt. If the bolt, wire or switch are getting an earth from anywhere else then the light will come on.

By now you have probably wound up the axles. Normally I zigzag which will usually release it on a hard surface, but you may have to jack one wheel up, then it should release or try running one wheel onto a low friction surface like grass and goose it it a little with the burtton pressed . If your still having problems. Remove the actuator from the diff housing and try to manually move the locking collar along the splines with a big screw driver levering against the housing, it should move quite easily.
If it doesn't want to move then it could be a twisted spline on the locking collar splines.
I had this happen to me quite recently and didn't want to replace the whole axle so I machined off a bit of the locking collar splines untill the collar moved freely and their was still enough spline to slide between the locked and unlocked positions.

A common problem is the Plumbing lines usually run close the the exhaust headers in the engine bay. Look at the lines to makes sure one or more is not melted.

This is on the money as mine would not unlock because of this reason.

Hey Mick. This may not be the case but i recently had similar issue but was actually the centre diff locked(it was shagged). Syptems where as you have described. Jack it up all 4 wheels and see if you can spin the axle independent to the other. Cheers Brett
