Buying this car is becoming a regret!

Yet another post about my lemon!
    97 disco tdi

This time similar problem as before. All was good until i went to start it, it didn't kick over first time like it usually does, i can only drive about ten meters before it coughs, chokes and sometimes stalls. I had this problem before due to a cracked fuel line. Replaced the line from lift pump to tank but had to use a stainless connecter from enzed because nut on sedimeter corroded.

It was fine on the way to work, drove well, no loss of revs when stopping nothing. I went out midday and it was hard to start which is strange but drove well. Drove back to work fine. Went to go home, hard to start and could barely get out the driveway. It eventually got going but it was lacking power as if something was pushing against it. I pulled over and pulled the stainless connecter off and put it back on which didn't really help. Managed to limp home, by the time i got home it was just about buggered, eccelerating in 20 meter spurts as if starving of fuel.

Last time this happened it was not so severe, i could still drive the car. This time i can barely reverse out my drive way. So time to check fuel lines again. Replace connecter just in case thats stuffed. Look at lift pump, maybe throw a match at it! It was fine on the way to work, drove well no loss of revs when stopping nothing.

Since buying this car 4 months ago i have replaced rear main (still leaks), replaced all seals and gaskets in TC. Resealed power steering pump, replaced fuel lines. And now this. Unbelievable! So much for exploring the north!

hi there gibbs ive had a similar problem turned out to be so called diesel algea in the fuel tank getting caught around the fine mesh filter in the fuel pickup in the tank. it was a landcruiser hj75 troopy i had to take the tank out as the pickup is in a hard to get at position. i cleaned the tank ,took the mesh filter of and fitted a clear inline filter just outside the tank, now if theres any crap in the tank it will get sucked up and then i can see it in the clear filter, a 5minute job to change now.from leyland.

sounds like youve got blockages in the lines somewhere quite possabley the diesel snot problem, if youve got (or had) rust on fittings that have gone all the way through you could also be sucking air.

Have you bled the fuel system from the filter to the injectors?

Haynes manual covers it well and it is an easy job taking 10-15 minutes.

I had to do mine after replacing the lift pump.

Start at the fuel tank breather and make sure it is breathing. Work your way forward and make sure everything else is not.

Don't get too discouraged, just about everyone has been there with diesel delivery problems.

Google "The Pitstop Bookshop".....they are in Perth city and supply a good range of Haynes manuals. I've recently purchased one for Td5, (about $65.00 that included postage up north) great service, very quick with delivery. If you live in Perth just a phone call to determine they have the one you want and perhaps drop in to see them.

    Cheers

Alright easy fixed in the end. I replaced the seals in the water trap a few months ago and it seems the bottom seal got pinched as i put it back together. I put the same seal back in temperarily im gonna drive it up to rovacraft and get a replacement. I might start buying 2 of everything as i need it .

As i cracked the nuts on the injector lines i noticed the 3rd and 4th injectors are leaking oil. Is this common and is there a common fix? The gasket just above is also leaking toward the back of the head. Looks like a rubber seal so i take it gasket maker is not suitable here? I'm think that the oil on my gearbox is coming from this leak not the rear main.
