    s111 diff pinion bearing

looking for an easy option is it possible to change a rear diff pinion bearing with the diff still in the truck can i just drop the drive shaft remove the flange, oil seal and bearing and can the bearing track be pulled out or does it have to be driffed from inside the diff housing

First thing that popped into my head for the bodgey way, drop pinion nut and flange, poke pinion in, give the outer a weld and it drops out..........possible, but for the work involved, I don't think its worth it, plus if the outer pinion bearing is rooted, eyeballing (replaceing!) the inner would be a good idea Although that involves resetting pinion height

very close but you weld a pair of bolts onto it and then use a slide hammer on the bolts.

waxing the pinion shaft and sleeving it is the way to go if you HAVE to do it this way. (which when someone has welded the diff cover on and you dont have a grinder..... no it wasnt mine)

Probably find once you've welded the bolts on it will drop out, doesn't take much weld to shrink/remove outer races in gearboxes

    Welded diff cover, hehe

what usually stops you on the diff front pinion is the build up of gunk that typically resides in front of theseal seat. the gearbox is a lot cleaner.

and dont do what someone at work who shouldnt be let near anything more complicated than a floor did to a landrover hub trying to "weld" a bearing race out......

    yes, you can guess.
