Don`t think a heavier duty converter will change that much,maybe shift points are altered a little.
seeing as you are running standard tyres,maybe your diff ratios have been altered somewhere along the line.

Is this still the case when in 3rd and with the trans locked, e.g when towing?

Hi Stephen, sorry I should have made that clearer, in lock up the converter does not slip/generate heat. Only when out of lock up is the heat generation taking place. Regards Ian Ashcroft

I thought this to about the diff ratio's, would be a fairly big job and not that cheap either,
so was looking for an alternative answer, it's doing my head in
