    Yes, thanks Trev,

Most of the petrol engines have showed about 2200rpm at 100kph, mine is 2600rpm / 100kph
After reading ashtrans post was wondering if a small or medium converter would effect the rpm's differently

    auto lock up

Don`t think a heavier duty converter will change that much, maybe shift points are altered a little.
seeing as you are running standard tyres, maybe your diff ratios have been altered somewhere along the line.

Regarding the original topic if you shift to 3rd then the torque converter will generate huge amounts of heat which can lead to oil degradation and box failure. If you have the small converter and tow then seriously look at additional cooling. The reason we recommend fitting the 'medium' size converter is two fold less slip therefore less heat generation and much larger clutch plate in the torque converter so less likely so slip/glaze. Is this still the case when in 3rd and with the trans locked, e.g when towing?

    TD5 Auto Lock up

Hi Stephen, sorry I should have made that clearer, in lock up the converter does not slip/generate heat. Only when out of lock up is the heat generation taking place. Regards Ian Ashcroft

    Trev.

I thought this to about the diff ratio's, would be a fairly big job and not that cheap either,
so was looking for an alternative answer, it's doing my head in

    careless work

Got the vehicle back but still not entirely happy with the auto box reconditioning. The sperts here in W.A. say everything is correct. Anyway, time will tell.
Crawling around under the vehicle I now find that the wires to the oil pressure sensor have been broken. Shurely to hell specialists should know how to remove a gearbox from a vehicle and what to look out for. It appears the 180 degree bends ay the top of the breathers from the auto box caught on the wires breaking them and damaging the plug. Consequently no oil pressure light!!! Certainly not happy Jack.
Anybody know where I can find another 2 pin plug complete with some wire on it so I can sort this problem out. Even if I have to join some extra wire to make the correct length.
