    auto problem D1 only reverse

I bought a Discovery 94 update 3.9 auto on dual fuel off ebay. The owner said his mechanic told him the A clutch was gone in the gearbox. It works fine in reverse but no engagement in any forward gears. I bought it for parts but would be nice to know what's wrong with the box. Thanks

I agree it could well be the A clutch!! I had the pan gasket split on mine and it dropped all its fluid and stopped going forward but would go in reverse. The Auto specialist that did the rebuild said it was the A clutch.

(If your really keen and did wanna get it going again I understand they can go in and just replace that clutch. In my case they were not keen for warrenty issues)

    yep dead A clutch,

gets load on it for all forwards gears.

for a rough idea read up the planetaries section of the grey box of evil thread.

The A clutch holds part of the first planetary gear in the torque path (from memroy) so that drive may be transmitted.
