    Which head gasket for a 94 Disco1 V8?

    Hi all,

I'm beginning to collect the bits I need to change the head gaskets on my Disco1.

How do I tell what sort of head gaskets it already has or would have had from the factory?

    It is a 1994 3.9 V8 serpentine belt engine no. 37D02084B.

I spoke to one LR parts supplier today and they said that all serpentine belt V8s had composite gaskets but I was under the impression that was a MY97+ thing.

JustinC you seem pretty keen on tin head gaskets.

I'd like to go with your experience but if I have an engine that has composite gasket heads then wouldn't the compression be too high and what would the valve clearance be like?

    Thanks

They had Composites, but stick tins in. The increase is less than a point.
I don't think you can get tins here, Ebay is the go.

Well I asked Paddocks if they would supply their kit with tin gaskets instead of composite ones (STC4082). We'll see what they say. Otherwise they are cheap enough to just get them to throw some tin ones in as well and then I'll have the choice later on.
Seems to have a heap of stuff in that kit.

I'm not about to do the head gaskets but it is borderline of needing them done and I'm the sort of person who likes to have all the stuff on hand so when I feel the urge to do it I can just get stuck in.

Having just done this to a Serp engine, coupled with a bit of port matching and Cam etc worth it.

I should add that you will have to recheck the lifter preload and shim the rocker pedestals accordingly, so while you are ordering Real steel sell shim kits. Gotta be a whole lot easier than making your own

I prefer composites because if you dont machine the heads and there is a tiny bit of warpage the comp. gaskets will take up that difference.
