You're not the first to discover that the LR engineers do things differently - if you really want the tech side of things, PM member 'Ashtrans', who apparently is on first name termswith the UK firm Ashcroft Transmissions. They are probably the leader in rebuilding R380's.
A tip from Award Diffs - pay attention to the oil pump assembly - you don't necessarily need to strip it down completely. The right gasket is hard to source, and it seems that the tolerances are thrown out after a new one is installed.
A tip from me - if you find that at the end you have installed the collar on the output shaft and forgot the oil seal, an appropriately sized speedi sleeve will allow installation. Any other method damages the seal and it will leak.
