thanks mate - can't wait to see how you go.

There was some measurement done in an other post somewhere (I can't find it at the moment) that had defenders tdi vs isuzu cabin noise. I think it was between 60-70db but I'm not sure how scientific the measurement was.

I don't think I could handle 100db for any length of time at all!

I've used Dynamat Extreme ( DMX) quite extensively in car stereo installs. It's not bitumin backed as someone said above. Bitumin based products are generally a bit cheaper than DMX. There is a Bitumin product you can by from roofing shops that is used for flashings: works well for noise and is a bit cheaper. But having said that I prefer DMX as it's always given me good results.

I'm no sound deadening guru but here's how I see it. Sound can either be barriered or absorbed. Because of the power of lower frequency signals it's difficult to absorb so barriering seems to be the best way. Yes there's space age materials used by NASA et all but you simply can't get around the fact that weight plays a huge part in barriering noise.

That Resomat stuff says it's 5kg/m2 which is a good weight. I think DMX is a bit less.

Best stuff I've ever used was plain 0.5mm thickness lead sheet. Was fairly maleable and easy to glue into place. Cost was fairly comparable with DMX.

I had a mate who did that back in the 70s in his Series 3, don't know how it went but I always thought lead and aluminium were a bad combination.
