Having just put new hose on my 4CU injection rail, it's fiddley but do-able. Just take care with really good clips on the feed from the tank and return lines

    (Like these http://www.wurth.co.nz/site/media/pd.../A_04_0023.pdf )

and use a dremel to remove the last of the old tail on the injectors.

    This should help:

Pre GA (1990) EFI fuel rail leak...rebuild or replace...

So, with all that said, I have a few questions to ask:

    • Would an EFI-to-carb conversion be a good idea? I'm assuming that by losing the fuel injection, I would not have to worry about fixing a lot of the melted wires. Would going to a carb-ed system eliminate the need for various electrical sensors (that would have possible be damaged in the fire)?
    • If I do go ahead with the conversion, would you be able to tell me what parts of the car from the EFI system can be discarded with?

I've searched through some the other topics through the forum, but I wasn't able to get the answers I was after.

I apologize for this fairly significant ask, being a newbie and all, but your wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance.
It would probably be cheaper and easier for you to bolt on a Stromberg manifold (cheap and readily available). The short comings are going to be fuel economy and that it will make the car unroadworthy .
As to what gets discarded, well everything from the manifold up.
    Rangie manifold with carbs $50
Range electronic dizzy somewhere around $100
You would have to use an adjustable pressure regulator to make use of the fuel pump.
I dont know where you are located but Harveys in Sommerville have a Federal EFI SD1 in the yard, most bits are still on it.

he will be able to use the current distrbutor as the ecu only controls fuel, not ignition, it is a standalone system (well on the hotwire efi anyway)

I know Chris (Sprover) is partial to SD1's and i believe he has one, the federal injection system was ok when it was introduced but as others have said its very old tech. A discovery series 1 hotwire system wouldnt be too hard to swap since your rover is already EFI. My mum used to have an SD1 when i learnt to drive, it was a great car and sounded great with its 2 1/2" exhaust.
