ACT who works on your Disco S2

Hi...need help. I have a series 2 disco V8 . I live near ACT. I have suffered numerous mechanical & electrical issues with this vehicle over the 12 months that I have owned it. The worst part is...no-one seems to know how to fix this thing. Can anyone advise me of a reliable/trustworthy/competent/registered mechanic who knows series2 Disco V8s.

    Cheers
    Matt

ha! the ongoing issue of so-called 'service' in the ACT region - whether it's tradies or LR mechanics, it's a challenge. My advice is for anything complicated, it's honestly worth the trip to Sydney to visit Graeme Coopers rather than letting the local nutscratchers make even more of a mess of your vehicle. To reduce the frequency of Sydney trips, learn how to do the more basic stuff yourself.

I agree - learn how to do it yourself or head up to Sydney.

having said what I said above, sometimes even GC are too busy to do a good job or to take the time to diagnose a niggly problem...which is why I'll be dropping in to see Mike or Justin next time I'm in Whyalla (brother's about to move there, so yes, some people do visit Whyalla!) or Tassie...the issue I've got with my vehicle seems to have everyone else stumped, so hopefully they'll consider it a challenge!

Have you been to see Ray Spence at Canberra Motor Works? He did all the work I couldn't do and find the fixes for problems I couldn't nut out.

Canberra Motor Works works for me. I've a 90 RRC and Ray and his crew have always done a great job. His advice has always been spot on too. He's not cheap but backs up his work without question (I've not had to take advantage of it yet but it nearly looked like it once and he didn't bat an eyelid at the question).

You had a Series 1 Disco Td5? Now that would be the first one of them I've heard about! -- Pics?
As for your dilemma, I can't help, sorry.

I'll try to be diplomatic about this on a public forum.

I've tried a few options in Canberra as have LR-owning friends.

    Go to Sydney...

My neighbour (TD5) and I (4.6 V8) both are very happy with Ray and Paul at Canberra Motor Works.

Canberra Motor works have been great for my D2 TD5.
He is very thorough, obsessive almost (but not quite) to a fault.
I also use GC in sydney who are great, but for some reason didnt change my fluids. Last service at CMW they went through a list of things to do next time, including "it looks like your fluids havent been changed in a while, did you get them done at 120k? Just looks old, also yr jack bottle is missing, I tightened a bolt on the rear chassis that I heard rattling, yr steering pin will need replacing etc etc"
His only fault is he is extremely conservative, and hates taking Discos outside their factory spec and especially hates non genuine parts. He will work on them though, and do an excellent job, but fitting is best left elsewhere
