D2 Rear Diff repair - Locker install

Ok blew the rear diff in my D2 today - multiple holes through the rear of the diff - blew a big hole where then oil filler used to be

So I have an ARB locker out of a D1 - thinking of using this i the diff rebuild

Can this be installed in a D2 (1999 model)?

Weld up the holds and tab into a new bit of steel a new drain plug then bolt in the locker in the front.

Is there a tutorial on here or anywhere with step by step on fitting an ARB locker? Also I believe there is a better way to plum the ARB air lines into the locker so that more functional/robust - does anyone know how this is done/have suggestions?

    Thanks
    SKiboy

I can't remember where i heard it but i know someone was saying that a 24 spline d1 diff is virtually the same as a d2 diff, but don't know for sure......

The question has been asked before, answer was no.
See if the more tech savy D2 owners can tell you why.

If your D1 is 24 spline RD 128, Yes it bolts in. If it's a 10 spline you're outa luck.

    Thanks Waxenwane
As far as I know (will go and look in garage after this) it is a 24 spline

Can anyone direct me to a tutorial on diff centre removal and ARB locker install?

Or does anyone know anyone on the Gold Coast/Bris who would show us how to do this - for a fee is fine.

I would like to learn how to strip and repair the diff anyway as we are getting into comp work (in another set up) and no doubt will need to do repairs in the future - hence this repair a good place to learn.

    Thanks all for input

    Hole in Diff Picture

Below is a pic of the hole in the diff – a gash above and below the filler plus the filler hole enlarged – no filler plug left

Also 2 pics of the locker I had from a D1 thinking of putting in

    Nasty looking diff explosion

By the looks your d1 locker is already setup with the airline fitting drilled and tapped in the housing, so if a d1 diff is a strate swap into a d2 housing and the axles etc match up you should beable to take the old diff out and put the new in without having to set anything up.....

Here is the airlocker service and parts manual...

Ratios should both be 3.54,unless your D1 has lower 4.11s
Did you sort if you had 24 splines already???
Good time to get rid of the donut on the tailshaft.
