    R380 suffix J to L

Hello All . first post on any site(old fashioned preferr the phone) I have a suffix J r380 that is in dire need of being reassembled, and having read the ashcroft transmissions page and asked their advice(and didn't get a comprehensive answer)I want to upgrade from a J to an L ,bigger gears, bearings, stronger shafts. I have to rebuild the t/c at the same time and the r380 requires a lot of parts anyway so if I can get some info on why it can't be done or how to do it icl machining req I can start or move on.Any help would be greatly appreciated.Brett

Whats the reason for the upgrade?,I would spend my money rebuilding the original to zero hour condition. Pat

It'd be easier to get a 'K' box out of a '98 Tdi than try and rebuild a 'J' box up to the same spec.

Dave Ashcroft says they treat the 'K' and 'L' boxes as the same thing, there are only some minor variations between the two with all the major dimensions (and I'm assuming strength) the same.

If you want to zero time an R380 box in Australia, then it can actually be a cheaper and a more reliable option to acquire an Ashcroft reconditioned box from the UK then pay for both the shipping and the lack of the exchange unit.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
