    ARB RD03 :grrr!!!

    Trying to dismantle an RD03...

What's the deal with these tiny little bolts!!!

A few were slightly rounded when I pulled the diff out. Both 8mm and 5/16 ring spanners are slightly loose, but smaller sizes won't fit.

I managed to get 3 of them out, but the others are being difficult. The spanner/socket just skips...

Does anyone have any tips before I resort to drastic measures???

Have you tried a Metrinch spanner?
They operate on the flats of the nuts and therefore can accommodate a small rance of sizes (hence the name - metric and inch), and burred nuts. Are available in ring, open ended and sockets.

If you have enough room, try some vycegrips.

    Good Luck.

No joy I'm afraid (apart from the fact I don't have any metrinch stuff) - they are 12-point bolts, not 6-point.

Unfortunately not they are partially recessed (see the bolts in the dark grey cap in the pic below).

Thanks for the pic isuzurover. They not be making it easy eh!

How about a small amount of heat aimed at the center casing where the thread lives?

Actually looks like they're meant to be used with an impact driver.

Assuming you can't get your hands on the correct size 12 point socket then ..................
As a desperate last resort you could don the butchers apron and try a centre punch and a few light taps with a hammer.
As you have already been successful with a few, you'll only need to break that initial 'seal' and then you will be able to use your existing 8mm or 5/16 spanners.

Hi Ian!!! Thanks for replying! I have an 8mm 12point (bi-hex?) socket, however it is no better than the 8mm ring spanner...
