    LT95 short thow

I have and LT95 without the gearstick. How can I tell if it is a long or short throw? Maybe serial numbers?

If the speed of light = 299,792,458 m/s, what is the speed of dark?

Gearbox numbers should tell you, the earier RR ones all started with numbers e.g 35545633C whereas the later short throw ones started with 12C,13C and the real late ones 28C and 29C. But someone could have changed it around either way.Unless you know its history the easiest way is to put a gearstick into it and then its very clear. Also the later ones had the 0.996 transfer ratio 45/26 teeth (but then again I have found ones that have had the ratio changed to 1.113). The earlier ones had larger selector receivers for the round knob on the gearlever whereas the short throw ones should have a flat gearlever. You can use the flat gearlever on the earlier boxes but not the other way around as the round gearlever will not fit in the smaller slotted selector receiver. Hope this helps.....Brian

as i havent found a latter box for my county. whats involved in changing a box to a short shifter ? i asume the final drive gears are an off the shelf option BUT if i change the final drive gears to the even higher ones then i will have a rather high low range is there any option here?

You can change a long throw LT95 to a short throw simply by changing the selectors. As you say the transfer gears and even the short throw selectors are still available. If you are going to fit it into an Isuzu you would need the 0.996 transfer ratio preferably with TRB intermediate shaft assembly. Doesn't matter what ratio high is, low range doesnt change. Also if you are going to use a RR LT95 box you have to change the rear output shaft assembly and handbrake as it is different to the County one.
