    Def 110 TD5 under bonnet air flow ?

    I don’t know if this is true or not but I was told that the problem with Defenders under bonnet heat build up was not a result of air being able to get into the engine-bay via radiator etc. But rather the result of the air being unable to get “out” from under the bonnet?

    I was thinking of getting some of those guard scoops but noted they face forward so if the above is correct the would need to face “back”.

    The other suggestion was to put in bonnet vent “s” anyone come across this or done anything to extract enhance the air flow out of the engine-bay?

    I haven't touch my defender yet (300tdi) as I find the engine runs quite cool.

    This is compared to my previous Range Rover V8 which emitted a lot of heat. I installed a Nissan Patrol bonnet scoop (forward facing) and side vents at the rear of the bonnet.

    Worked really well. the air coming out of the side vents at idle was amazingly hot.

    theres gobs of airflow out of the engine bay.

    either side of the engine down past the chassis and out the gaps in the body work.

    Never had a problem Td5's. My only heat issue was getting the brakes too hot - the master cylinder got very hot. This was more a case of over working the ETC due inexperience/over enthusiasm.

    What symptom are you trying to cure?

    Defenders are over cooled if anything. If it's overheating something is seriously wrong.

    Getting heat into the heating system is another matter

    I'm not suffering any problems but am doing some prep work for a trip. I just had it in the back of my mind that Defenders "had" enginebay heat problems.

    If this were the case then I was looking to put in some/a vent. Unfortunately/fortunately I've got a bonnet mount fitted for a tyre so a vent in that area is not going to work.

    They only run hot if they have a problem or if you fit a winch,spotlights etc in front of the rad and then drive up hills in fifth.Get the core rodded and a system flush and on hot days keep to 100 and you'll be fine. Pat
