However the early D2 had an LT230 gear drive transfer box (same as your 85 RRC) with an open centre diff but no locking mechanism because they assumed that the traction control would be sufficient. This was rectifed in later D2s.

OK that clears that up I will have to add some questions of the diff lock to the previous query of drive shafts and fuel type of donor vehicle.

Just make sure what you get is as advertised - the R380 was fitted from early 1994 and was not fitted to a 92 disco as indicated in the ad - though could be a typo or the original LT77 replaced at some stage.

I got onto Dave Ashcroft from Ashcroft Transmissions he is very helpful to those on the other side of the world.
It turns out that the 'box is from an TDI not from a V8 as the seller informed me.
So it is of no use to me without major refitment. I will keep on the hunt I think for a replacement 'box.

I am going to try changing the lower housing of the gearshift selector on the week-end. Hopefully that helps with the gear selection, though I think it the 2nd gear syncro.
