Hi
I should check first. the bolt on the pedal is allright
Sit a block of wood/brick/heavy item on the throttle, then see if you can pull anymore on the cable at the pump, as far as I knew, the earliest 4BD1's were governed at 3200rpm, then upto 3600, governor setting is easily lifted though
How is your tacho signal generated?, it may not necessarily be accurate either
I have the sensor that screws under the injector pump. I allso used a tacho that has the laser beam and the tape, as well as a wheel on the tacho. I used this on the bottom pully and the reading where the same as the big tacho in the car.
Other than getting more wheel speed for heavy mud and momemtum. Why would you want to push a 4BD1 or T in a 4wd above 3000.
The reason being after a recent club trip in very heavy muddy steep tracks I have enough torque to attack hills in 3rd or 4th low range when the V8,s are struggling in 2nd.
On road I sit around 1500 through 2200 and still pull hills with the trailer.
I dont see the benefit of 400 odd rpm out of the torque band.
If I am wrong pls set me straight.
Justin
I find it a problem a fair bit to be honest, sure their is plenty of torque, but a limited rev range, not allowing enough flexability, so you tend to have to be a gear higher for muddy stuff, which it will do, but when you need to slow down, i.e. over a spoon drain or washout or tree on a big steep muddy climb, you fall of boost, change down gears and not enough rev range to be able to grab the next gear again, it'd help alot just so when you upchange your back in the power/boost band
I have the nissan 5 sp in the car, was a rover 5sp. 1- gear will give 10kh 2-gear 25/30 3--gear 55-60 4--gear to 80 5-- gear 100. In 5th gear it will not go any faster and this is with the foot flat to the floor when i hit a slight hill i have to change back to 4 or 3 as the motor just dies in the arse. will check the cable in the morning.
Do you know overall ratios? that will confirm your findings, although with your tacho, their is no reason to suggest otherwise but I'd say 5th would still be well below 2800rpms at 100km/hr
My RR will sit at true 140 on the governor, 35's, 3.54 diffs, 1:1 4th gear and 0.996:1 high range
Sounds like not enough throttle![]()
