But why do the TD5 and Puma people always say "I'd never have a 4BD1 - rattly 'orrible, noisy old things"

After all the TD5 and Puma are such great, reliable, Euro4 compliant, turbo diesels,! Aren't they?

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

I think it's something to do with the "bearded, greying, moustached or older thinking type). Simple, efficient, everlasting (well, almost), non troublesome quiet achiever of an engine. Actually it is a fallacy that they are rattly, horrible and noisy - properly running they are no worse than a TDI and at highway speed are quieter and the added bonus is there are no electronics needed - if the alternator or battery dies you can still drive it as far as you like as long as you don't need lights.

Does that mean that I'll now have to grow a long grey beard and moustache?

Looks like a day after I've paid for the thing, I'm going to have to sell it again.

Euro3, niether passed muster for Euro4 under all conditions and I bet I can find at least half a dozen td5 owners who'd rather have the suzi.
