Thanks JC. That option is definitely under consideration. My engineer is also keen to recover a bit of braking performance since fitting the 33's will reduce it somewhat. Its average now with the 31's still fitted

On a separate note, after chatting to you I fitted some LRA orange springs to the front during the week. If I ignore my extended bump stops (only extended so the Dobinsons springs I intended to fit didn't coil bind), the bump stop clearance to standard stops is around 70mm (ARB steel bar and no winch).

I'm thinking with such a soft spring, the Isuzu, and likelihood of fitting a winch in the future thats not enough, so probably going to go to a LRA Purple which are a 220 lb spring, same length as the orange ones.
I figure that should give me just over 100mm clearance on standard stops while still being pretty comfortable.
I'd be interested in your thoughts on it...

Steve, i ran purples in the front of my rangie with the chev v8 diesel and winch etc, had 125mm bump stop clearance. i ran green/whites in the back with around 170mm clearance. depending on what lift you want, may'be the purple/yellows would be suited better.
As for brakes, the defender stuff is wat better than the rangie stuff, but i presume yours has fender brakes up front.

Sounds like the purples would be too tall for me then.

I cut the bump stops off and put them back to standard today. Also found that the spare front springs I got with the county were actually OME761's (200lb/15") so its now sitting quite nicely with about 70mm bump stop clearance. Will get me mobile for now.

My brakes are just standard early County stuff. Disc front, drum rear and the small diameter single diaphragm booster...

Its now finished to a properly drivable state.
I did about 90kms in it this afternoon with no problems - speedo is still reading high, but hopefully should be sorted this week.

EGT gauge got wired up last night:

So today I HAD to go out and do some testing....

Initial runs with no fuel pump changes, the most I could get the EGT to was 570deg (probe is pre-turbo), and maximum boost was around 10psi (wastegate is wired shut). One hill on my test circuit has a long 3rd gear section and then a short 15% gradient. I could only manage 35km/h foot to the floor in second up the steep bit.

A couple of turns out on the fuel screw turned it into a completely different vehicle to drive, but was a bit too exciting for the EGT gauge - it headed quickly past 700deg with boost topping out at 18psi.

Half a turn back in (so 1.5 turns out from original) and I haven't been able to push it past 690deg, and boost tops out at a steady 15psi.
It will hold 3rd gear on the 15% gradient hill - at 70km/h, so a HUGE difference in drive-ability.

    A final photo.
Outwardly doesn't look any different than it did when it went into the shed 9 months ago, but IT IS
My daughters comments as it was idling in the driveway before she took it for a drive. "Cool - its got a pulse" and "he-he, it rolls to the side when I rev it"...

Now where's my build up list...ah, here it is:
...UHF, snorkel, cup-holders, intercooler, dual batteries, fridge slide, soundproofing, rooftop tent, more soundproofing.......

What size tyres? it'll prefer larger, mine was a dog with 4.11's on 35" tyres before I switched the ratios back to 3.54

Interesting on the boost and EGT's, as I'm at 30psi with the VNT and the most I've hit is 680c pre turbo, be interesting to drive both back to back

    Tyres are 33's (255/85), 3.54 diffs and .996 transfer.
It takes a bit for the turbo to spool up. Definitely not a "gutless, waiting...now here comes the boost" feeling like driving an auto 300tdi, but it definitely pulls a lot harder from about 1800rpm.

Definitely be interesting to drive them back to back. I'm sure yours pulls a lot harder than mine, but I reckon it would start from a lot lower down too.

It would also be very interesting to throw a temp probe in the inlet manifold.
I'd definitely like to do a before and after measurement when I get around to fitting an intercooler.

Ah so not intermacooled yet? that would explain relatively high EGT's, be really good to see the non intercooled to intercooled comparison with the same fuelling before upping it some more

Mine has no lag at all, and practically no smoke unless cold, it makes power right through from idle

I was staying in williamstown for a few nights getting accreditated for photovoltaic installs, I going going to drop in, but found myself staying with a fellow ****wreck and never got to it

    No, no intercooler yet
Have it all laid out for a Frozenboost WTA under the aircleaner, but haven't got there yet. Will get the Disco sold shortly, so that should free up some funds.

Have a new turbine shaft for the VNT sitting in the shed, so that's on the backburner as well.
Probably going to mod my inlet ducting when I fit a snorkel - will try and remember to weld in a boss for a temp probe while its out. I've got some spare thermocouples around somewhere...

I took Steve's County for a drive yesterday. The Stage 1 engines have a reputation for being a lot noisier than the later engines, but I gotta say, I was impressed with how quiet this one is.
Steve's done a great job setting up the turbo etc. It's got virtually no lag and the power/torque feeds on smoothly right through the rev range. Intercooling will only make this great truck even better.
There seems to be a bit of a trend lately, of guys 'upgrading' to an Isuzu County from later model Landys..........good to see.
