Steve, I haven't used the new type 2 piece seal either yet, but the word is that they are better than the normal one. Personal preference I guess. The old style ones are usually good for a few years.

If you look at the bellhousing from the engine end there are 2 mounting bolts at about 1 o'clock and 2 o'clock, its drilled in at right angle to the bolts inbetween them in the thick bit of the bellhousing. It show to use 700mm of nylon tube onto the bundy tube I suppose it ends up with the other breathers on the fire wall behind the air cleaner.
Jim.
I've removed the rear seal housing, and there is a definite wear groove in the sealing surface of the crank, and the small ridges on the seal lip have mostly worn back to smooth. Its still quite flexible, not rock hard like old seals tend to go, so I'm guessing its been replaced before.
Probably a good call just to replace it now (thanks Brian).
I'll try and get one of the two piece seals with the integral wear sleeve. P/N is 8970728231 according to this thread http://www.aulro.com/afvb/isuzu-land...in-seal-2.html
If anyone has bought one more recently it would be great if you could confirm what the P/N was.
Steve
I tried to find one of those but was told it didn't exist or wasn't available and eventually gave up. I bought a speedy sleeve and standard seal instead but haven't fitted them.
Everyone seems to agree that you have to fill the groove in the crank, but opinion seems divided as to why. I went to a bearing place to buy some sort of liquid metal compound (as recommended by a number of people here), but the guy at the counter said I should use a gasket sealant instead and sold me that (he was really insistent and I figured I'd work it out later).
Those who recommend the liquid metal say it is to stop the sleeve sinking into the groove. The guy at the bearing shop said you just need to fill the grove to ensure there is no air, as any air under the sleeve will get very hot and burn through the sleeve.
Let me know if someone can give you the right answer![]()
I didn't go to Isuzu directly, but my local jap truck spares place didn't get a hit on the 8970728231 P/N.
I also had a chat to the local SKF branch, and couldn't get anything out of them either, other than it may be a special that's been manufactured by Chicago Rawhide for use by the OEM.
Phoned ULR in Melbourne to find out about the BYG2767 seal - good number, but the price sucks. Listed at $190
Ended up ordering the 105mm seal and Isuzu wear sleeve from the truck spares place. About $130 all up. I'll post up the final part numbers when I get them.
They also told me that Isuzu don't list the seal housing to block gasket any more, and have moved to just using a flange sealant for that joint.
Steve
Steve, I bought the seal housing to block gasket at Don Kyatts in Brisbane 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately it is all packed away and I won't be digging it up until early November. If you can wait that long I can probably get the part number, or just call Kyatts and they'll probably post you one.
They didn't have the packing piece that sits on the bottom face of the seal housing and suggested I use sealant for that.
Just for interest sake here's a piccy of the Stage1 gearbox adapter plate.
I noticed when looking at Rijidij's conversion thread that his landrover plate is different from the the Stage1. I assumed there was only one landrover plate for the isuzu.
Here's the Stage1 adapter. It has an open center and separate seal housing like the truck one, and the same small removable filler strip below the sump line:
Here's the photo frpm Rijidij's post, noting that the landy one has an integral seal housing:
