Thats fine with me i dont mind paying the premium for staino do you know what grade it is 316 or 304 either will do the job tho im told 304 is better for exhaust stuff .

Also agro are you able to cut ally if so would you be interested in doing some other flange plates for me im after inlet and outlet flanges for the compressor side of the turbo the same specs as the drawings i linked in this thread id like 3 of each the 3 bolt hole and 2 bolt hole flanges in 6mm ally plate .

Normally exhaust stainless is ferritic grade (400 series) which isn't as corrosion resistant as 304/316 but doesn't expand/contract as much with temperature change, is easier to weld and is more formable.

The 304/316 grades expand/contract 50% more than mild steel and don't go through a phase transformation when cooling. Rough translation, 304/316 stainless pulls/distorts a ridiculous amount during welding.

Yep dougal your prety much on the money there with stainless distorting with heat if i joined all the stainless welds ive done i rekon it would go from my place to yours and back again.

All the exhaust stuff ive done in staino has been 316 and ive done quite a bit and had no probs i use to make up parts for underground equipment tho ive had exhaust shop guys swear by 304 so every one has there own opinion with what works for them.

I'm pretty sure most race turbo and aircraft systems use 321 but IIRC it's a bit difficult to find here.

Ideally you'd use Inconel but outside the aircraft sector not many could work/weld it it successfully.

Inconel here is through the roof

304 is what I would use for exhaust as 316 is a waste

I do cut ali up to 8mm so I can cut the other plates

Had a look at the Burns Stainless site the other night, they make premium race merge collectors and headers and they use either 304 or 321, so 304 it is.
